En un par de excursiones al campo hace unas semanas recogí bastantes moras y zarzamoras, la mitad se convirtieron en varios botes mermelada que se acabaron muy pronto de lo buena que estaba, la otra mitad (las que estaban casi pochas) fueron a parar a una bolsa en el congelador hasta que tuve tiempo de hacer tintes.
During a pair of excursions some weeks ago I picked a lot of mulberries and blackberries. Half of the became a delicious jam and the other half (they were too ripe) were frozen until I had the time to dye.

Se lavan muy bien porque suelen tener bastante polvo pero con cuidado porque puede que estén bastante maduras y blandas. Podemos usarlas directamente o congelarlas como yo hice. Cuando queramos usarlas sólo hay que sacar la bolsa un rato antes.

El color del tinte de la mora viene de las antocianinas, unos compuestos orgánicos presentes en esta fruta y otros vegetales como los arándanos, la remolacha o las hojas de arce. El nombre viene del griego anthos (flor) y kyáneos (azul), pero no sólo aportan color azul sino a los rojos, rosas, púrpuras y violetas.
Tomamos un bote grande, metemos las moras, las machacamos un poco para que suelten jugo y añadimos agua. Yo guardé el bote en el frigorífico un par de días y de vez en cuando lo agitaba.

Colamos el agua y tiramos los restos de moras, realmente no merece la pena guardarlos en este caso. Y ahora, lo de siempre: Añadimos este agua a una olla grande (tiene que caber bien lo que vamos a
teñir) y calentamos hasta que llegue a unos 90º. Añadimos entonces las
madejas (previamente han estado 1 hora en remojo) y cubrimos con agua
para que puedan moverse tranquilamente y que el tinte quede uniforme.
A los 30 minutos apagamos el fuego y dejamos reposar toda la noche. A la
mañana siguiente sólo tenemos que lavar las madejas con jabón neutro y
agua y dejar secar.

Then we add the skeins (they have previously been soaked around 1 hour) and cover them with water so that they have enough to move without problems and dye uniformely.
After 30 minutes we turn off the heat and let stand overnight. The next morning we only have to wash the skeins with mild soap and water and allow to dry.

cremor tártaro al 8%. La madeja de algodón además tiene un premordentado
de taninos extraídos de la cáscara de la granada.

Leí en un blog que hay que tener cuidado con la temperatura del agua ya que si sube demasiado las moras pueden liberar taninos y hacer que el tinte sea más pardo. En mi caso creo que sucedió esto ya que el color no es el violeta que yo esperaba, el típico de las manchas de mora.
